During treatment, it is a workbook in which individuals can record their own experience of their disorder, together with the additional advice for their particular case given by their clinician. After treatment has concluded, this manual will serve as a self-help resource enabling those who have recovered, but who encounter further stress or difficulties, to read the appropriate section and, by putting the content into action, stay well. Cannabis, the mind and society: the hash realities (PDF - free reg. req'd)

Monday, 5 November 2007 2:12 A GMT+01
Cannabis has been known for at least 4,000 years to have profound effects on the mind - effects that have provoked dramatically divergent attitudes towards it. Some societies have regarded cannabis as a sacred boon for mankind that offers respite from the tribulations of everyday life, whereas others have demonized it as inevitably leading to 'reefer madness'. The debate between the protagonists and prohibitionists has recently been re-ignited, but unfortunately this debate continues mainly in ignorance of our new understanding of the effects of cannabis on the brain and of studies that have quantified the extent of the risks of long-term use.

The Mind and the Brain: Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force

Sunday, 23 September 2007 11:58 P GMT+01
In The Mind and the Brain: Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force, neuropsychiatrist Jeffrey Schwartz, M.D., and veteran science journalist Sharon Begley argue that behavioral changes can induce a degree of neuroplasticity that may actually aid in the treatment of a condition like obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Their case is embedded in a wonderful review of advances in understanding brain plasticity, a tour with side trips to the worlds of physics and philosophy.
