MedWire News: Psychiatric outpatients who receive a single session of maintenance electroconvulsive (ECT) therapy do not experience a subsequent decline in learning, attention, or executive function, a Spanish study has found.
Lorena Rami and colleagues from the University of Barcelona say their findings support the use of maintenance ECT in preventing relapse and recurrence in drug-resistant psychiatric patients who have been successfully treated with a full course of ECT.
