MedWire News: The use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in patients hospitalized for a acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is known to be linked to reductions in the risk of recurrent ischemia, heart failure, and cardiac enzyme elevation, but it also leads to increased bleeding, US study findings indicate.
Patients with coronary artery disease often have anxiety, depression, and other related conditions, and SSRIs are commonly used to treat such conditions. However, it is notable that SSRIs also inhibit platelet activation, which may affect outcomes in ACS patients.
