Brain activity predicts decisions before they are consciously made

Your brain makes up its mind up to ten seconds before you realize it, according to researchers. By looking at brain activity while making a decision, the researchers could predict what choice people would make before they themselves were even aware of having made a decision.

This research may help explain why anxiety, and particularly panic attacks, have often spiralled out of control by the time we become fully aware of them.

That is not yet clear. The researchers stressed that: "Our study shows that decisions are unconsciously prepared much longer ahead than previously thought. But we do not know yet where the final decision is made. We need to investigate whether a decision prepared by these brain areas can still be reversed."
